Dj Blazita: I've always been heavy into music while growing up... playing instruments like piano. In high school and college I had my own hip hop radio show so it was the next step to learn to DJ. I was inspired when I was at Penn State and djs like Kid Capri, Flex and even some of the DJs I went to school with were shutting down the parties. I had a friend teach me the basics of turntablism and I took it from there.
HHB: What are some of the obstacles you had encountered being a female DJ? Dj Blazita: I think there are obstacles for djs regardless. But I probably do have to work harder to show that I have skills to people like promoters or club owners. I also feel that sometimes my competition comes at me on a personal level as a female instead of on a business level where we should be. I love DJing though so when someone tries to knock me down I just push harder past them. HHB: With the long list of Dj's just in the tri-state area alone, what are some ways you are trying to stand out of the crowd marketing wise? Dj Blazita: I mean just being a female dj is kind of rare. But I spread my time among mixtapes, clubs, and radio so I'm everywhere people turn. I like working with artists and keeping my name hot online and in the streets and then going and djing in clubs. I also play a lot of different types of music besides hip hop like latin, dance, reggae, and old school. HHB: What has been some of the strangest request plays you have received? Dj Blazita: Line dancing requests are always strange lol. HHB: Do you feel you have become the new face of female DJ'ing? Dj Blazita: I don't know. It depends on the market. I've made a name for myself with mixtapes but there are females that are bigger faces than me when it comes to radio and clubs. I'm working to be "the most dynamic" in all aspects of music and cross those boundaries that DJs both male and female have not got past yet. HHB: Are there any clubs or cities you want to play that you havent yet? Dj Blazita: Yes, I haven't done anything in Cali, Atlanta or Europe yet. I would love to go to those places especially DJ overseas. HHB: Do you feel that the DJ is the most imortant position in the industry? Dj Blazita: The DJ is crucial. I think it takes producers, artists and DJs working together though to create a real movement and quality music. HHB: When you were an up and coming DJ, how many hours did you practice a day? Dj Blazita: I haven't made it to the top yet so I still practice. To really learn skills of djing it's very time consuming. I hibernated for months to learn the basics and work on my party sets. I love to DJ though so even now I still spend a large part of my day mixing especially getting used to new records and working on mixes for cds. HHB: How do you feel about the the game DJ hero? Dj Blazita: I don't know, I don't play video games like that so I haven't tried it. It's a game not the club, so I doubt it's very realistic. HHB: A lot of rock n' roll legends don't the whole guitar hero movement because its not really teaching kids to play the guitar or even take it seriously, what have you been hearing amoung other dj's about their feelings toward the game? Dj Blazita: I've heard mixed reviews. Some think its cool, and some think its wack. One person who isn't a DJ sent me a message giving props saying he realized how hard djing actually is after playing the game. HHB: What shows do you have lined up? Dj Blazita: I'll be traveling a lot the next couple months to Canada, Boston, Pennsylvania and Ohio to DJ the clubs. My website www.djblazita.com will have the latest details. HHB: Any other projects in the works for you? Dj Blazita: I just dropped a mixtape with recent SRC signee AlBe Back called "Love You More" that is really dope. Next month I'm teaming up with Barbershop101.com and Converse to do a basketball tournament in NYC to raise money for at risk youth, which we hope to take to other cities in 2010. I have a radio show on Thatshiphop.com every Wednesday at 10PM with special guests. I am also working on a mix show that I would like to syndicate called "The after School Hour" that is every day at 3:30PM. Anyone who is interested in keeping up with me can find me at twitter.com/djblazita Thank you for the interview! I appreciate it and all the support I receive from HipHopBase.net

HHB: How did you get introduced to DJ'ing?
